Can I keep a pair of cleaner shrimp in my tank with a purpleback pseudochromis (Pictichromis diadema)? I've heard mixed answers online, so I wondered if anyone here has any experience keeping dottybacks with cleaner shrimp.

I have two shrimp in my tank with a psuedochromis.  It doesn't bother them at all.  How big is your tank?  Unless they are on top of each other I don't think you'll have a problem.  The other question is how big is the shrimp?  If it's bite size then I wouldn't put them together.  If the shrimp is adequate size and won't fit in the fishes mouth then you should be ok.

A great many threats face reef environments.  An informed marine aquarist can be part of the solution, not a contributor to the problem.

My tank is a 120 standard with lots of hiding places, but also a lot of open space... the pseudo is extremely gentle, presumably because of the presence of two large tangs.

I've read that large fish can really calm down pseudos... so this makes sense. I really would like to get two (or more) of the larger ones, (Lysmata amboinensis), AKA "Jacques" (a thousand apologies).

It definitely won't come anywhere near fitting in the pseudo's mouth, Mark. Thanks for the response!
